The 23 or so posts following are a 'before and after' of our recent remodeling. What was a 1970's era style has now been updated. Work was done in the entry way (and stairs), living room, dining room and kitchen. What was very dark and closed in before is now very light and open.
The living room, dining room and kitchen were pretty much seperate rooms as was the style when the house was built. The remodeling opened up these three rooms and you can see how these rooms now join without walls.
We had wall to wall carpeting in the living room, dining room and hall to the bed rooms. This was changed out in favor of natural hickory flooring. The kitchen had vinyl that was also changed to the hickory flooring. The stairs had the carpeting changed and the entry way flooring was also updated.
The cabinets were dark and we had dark paneling. All of the paneling was removed in favor of light color walls. The cabinets were replaced with spice stained hickory that now go to the kitchen ceilings. Built-in bookshelves were placed in the living room (same stain) in place of darker free standing bookshelves.
The living room ceiling changed from having rough hewn beams and no lighting to no beams and can lighting. All the ceiling textures went from 'popcorn' to a slight texture. Wall textures went from a slight texture to smooth.
The fireplace went from brick to stone. When Cindy asked me if the fireplace looked better, my answer was: "Anything would look better." Well, we did much better than 'anything' as you will see in the pictures.
